We work in rural Guatemala; this means it is extremely difficult to accept returns or exchanges. This would require the purchaser to ship the product back to us, incur custom/duty fees, and risk the product never reaching us here in the village. Therefore, we do not accept returns or exchanges.

The women strive to craft quality, durable products you are sure to love, but if you are completely unsatisfied with your product or if your product is damaged under typical wear and tear circumstances, please contact us at solteraleather@gmail.com. We will make it right!

Please remember these products were made by hand so they may have charming inconsistencies. We appreciate what makes Soltera Leather distinct from factory-made products. The leather utilized is vegetable tanned, a century old and natural tanning method that does not contaminate eco-systems. This method yields beautiful color variations and unique textures. We craft with the highest-quality leather, full-grain leather. This is the most sought after and deemed the best type of leather. It comes from the very top layer of the hide, so any scars the cow may have had are visible. The grain, scars, brands, and marks are subtle, yet offer incredible character. We do not consider these charming marks errors or damages as they do not alter the functionality of the product. These products are built to last as the stitching and leather is very durable. If a defect alters the functionality of your product under normal wear and tear circumstances please contact us at solteraleather@gmail.com.

We exist to create jobs for single moms in rural Guatemala. Single motherhood is a crisis in this area and these women often fall victim to unsafe and unfair working conditions. We provide a living wage, which is at least double or triple the minimum wage. We provide bonuses, health insurance and maternity leave. We also make sure all employees are home by 1PM, as single mothers they need to be available when their children return home from school. Women are finding safe and purposeful employment for the very first time at Soltera Leather.

Yes. Single motherhood is a crisis in the villages of Guatemala. These women have little to no income opportunities to provide for their children. The industry in the area is limited to agriculture, and jobs are almost exclusively for men. Single moms are a uniquely vulnerable population,  in attempt to feed their children, take jobs in industries where they fall victim to modern slavery. We stand against modern slavery and hope to eradicate childhood malnutrition in the area by creating safe and purposeful jobs for single moms exclusively. Right now, that means employing Silvia and Ismelda. We dream to employ so many more single moms, and your purchase and support of this business will make this dream a reality.

We provide these single moms with mentors so they may better learn to craft leather. Cruz and Jesus offer one on one education to these women. All products are made by single moms and their mentors.

The leather gets better with time. The natural oils of our skin wears onto the leather and creates a beautiful patina. Allowing these oils from our skin be the leather’s “conditioner” is really the best way! You may try a leather conditioner, but we suggest trying it on an inside edge, before applying it all over the product. Soltera Leather is not responsible for damages that arise from conditioning.
